A Summary of Daniel Schades "A Militia of the Occupation of the Vancouver Island Coalfields, August 1913" In the article "A Militia of the Occupation of the Vancouver Island Coalfields, August 1913" by Daniel Schade there is distinct disagreement between the owners of the coal mines and the workers. The workers of the coal mines are very displeased with the appalling work conditions that are forced upon them, and thus start a huge uproar by striking. To contravene the strikers, the owners of the mines simply hire new workers. This causes huge animosity in the strikers who begin destroying the mines, burning down houses, and causing various amounts of damage around and in the Vancouver Island coal fields.
David Glazer AP Language and Composition Johnson 2/3/16 Analyzing “A Field Philosopher’s Guide To Fracking” In his book A Field Philosopher’s Guide to Fracking, Adam Briggle documents his journey to fight fracking in the small town of Denton, Texas. Recently hired as a professor of philosophy at the University of North Texas, Briggle moves to Denton never having heard of fracking before. Fracking is a type of drilling that increases oil production and effectiveness but, as Briggle would learn, has severe consequences on the community.

The Marcellus Shale is located in Pennsylvannia and is 9,000 feet below the suface around some part of the Appalachian basin. It is 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The whole importance of the Marcellus Shale is the it yeilds gasoline for our country. It was yeilding 14.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day in 2015. Some of the issues surrounding the shale are: drilling and pipelining can be harmful for the water in the area, wildlife in the area will leave, and legal issues such as land leasing for gas development and possible property damage.
“Gasland” is a documentary on natural gas and how its drilling affects people. It really lets you see what these natural gas companies are doing. The toxic fumes and chemicals are ruining people 's lives to the point where some of them are dying. “Gasland” makes you grateful for what you have and how clean it is. Think about having to get your water every day and it was 30-50 miles away.
How did the Great Depression affect the people in America? Many people were poor and out of work because of this. It changed the way Americans lived. People were trying their best to make and save money. A lot of people lost their homes, other items, and their jobs.
A few weeks ago, I was finally able to make my first Georgia Southern baseball game. I am not proud that it took over a year for me to ultimately make a game. I have never been the biggest baseball fan, but I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to see Georgia Southern play the University of Georgia. I was very curious to see how the stadium and field looked, because I heard about the new renovations that the school added in the offseason. I also was interested to analyze how they promote their sponsors, because I will be doing the same thing when I start my internship this fall, at East Coweta High School.
Coal mining in Cape Breton is an important piece of history, it gave many men, young and old, secure jobs. Jobs that also meant endangering their lives every day as they went into the mines, possibilities of dust explosions threatened them daily along with unknown threats to their health, breathing in the dust from the mines would build up and cause serious long term lung diseases. Taking jobs in the mines meant being put in a company town, leaving them little to none free choice of their own, also taking the job meant being paid very little which resulted in hunger and poverty among the miners, and when striking against the company for more money and more power over their own lives it resulted in extreme police brutality towards the miners.
With the increased scale of fracking in Texas, one might wonder if the oil boom is affecting our water supply. The value of water in Texas is deeply cherished considering Texas’s dry climate and long-standing droughts. One may even wonder if Texas is valuing its water as much as it is its oil. In recent years there has been a big issue on fracking in Oklahoma. This is an issue that only continues to get worse. The oil company, , by residents has been blamed for many of these earthquakes. Within the past month, there have been more and more issues. In Edmond Oklahoma, there was a big earthquake, which provoked residents to sue the company for $28 million in damages.
Thesis statement The benefits of natural gas hydraulic fracking do not justify the adverse effects it causes through continuous earthquakes, pollution of the water table, or potential health hazards to human populations. This subject is interesting to me because I work for a natural gas company. I have had many conversations with other employees regarding natural gas fracking, and most of them are biased to the views of the drilling companies which means they do not see any harm in it. There also used to be companies fracking for natural gas in Arkansas on the Fayetteville Shell. The number of small earthquakes did rise (3.0 or smaller), but there was nothing resulting in a large amount of devastation.

Gaskell 's first literary work, Mary Barton, also an industrial novel, enlightened her readership on the manufacturing living conditions. In the preface of this book, the author explains us that instead of telling a story set in the countryside in the past, she thought about 'how deep might be the romance in the lives of some of those who elbwoed [her] daily in the busy streets of the town in which [she] resides '.
The Ok Tedi Copper Mine Define the main forms of pollution and resource depletion and identify the major problems associated with each form. The main type of pollution at the Ok Tedi Copper Mine is the discharging of mining waste into the Ok Tedi River in Papua New Guinea. The pollution problem began in 1984 following the collapse of a tailing dam used by the company that was responsible for mining copper and gold at the site. By 2000, more than 90 million tons of mine waste had been released into the river and destroyed tens of villages, farms, rainforests, and fisheries downstream.
