Generation M was a video about misogyny in media and culture. Misogyny is the hatred of women. The video explained how culture and media perpetuate the misogynist culture. The media turns women into sexual objects which creates bad ideals and violence against women. The media sells the idea that a sexualized women is a free women (and the only way to be a free woman). This makes girls act sexual so they can be the free and independent woman that society says they need to be. One way that they show girls sexuality is through music videos. Barbie is a popular young girls toy that seems harmless at first glance but can cause a lot of subconscious attitudes and thoughts. They teach girls that it is important to only focus on the outer appearance with the many different skimpy barbie outfits. Barbie's body shape is unrealistic and gives small girls the thought that the Barbie body is the “normal” body. There has been multiple other dolls that are more sexualized since barbie such as My Scene dolls and Bratz. These dolls are shown with tiny clothing, makeup and unrealistic bodies. Beauty pageants have become increasingly popular and feature girls to look like these dolls. These beauty pageants encourage girls to get fake tans, wear fake teeth, an excessive amount of makeup and to wear tight skimpy clothing. A reason for this increasing number of hate crimes could be because of the hateful and misogynist rap that is being seen in popular culture today. In this gangster rap men are aggressive and violent. They are always portrayed as heroes where the women are always portrayed as bitches and hoes. A misogynist rapper named Eminem clearly shows how low women are viewed in society. If he rapped the way he does about blacks as he does women. He will not use the derogatory terms toward blacks but doesn't hesitate to say bitch and hoe. Eminem once explained in an interview that he will not use derogatory terms toward blacks because he knows how powerful and harmful words are. This teaches young boys that women are property and just for taking control of. This also teaches girls that they are just sex objects in society. Boys are trained to be the bad boy and girls are trained to go after the bad
