Salvation is a gift, given to us by God, a way out of punishment for our sins, but we must have faith in Him in order to receive it. Many people are tricked into thinking that doing good things saves you, but they are mistaken and often refer to the book of James for their “proof”. Even though James sounds contradictory to the rest of the Bible, if you look deep enough into his words, you can see that he agrees with Genesis that faith alone saves.
The New Testament and Not-old Testament scriptures clearly teach that we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross (mainly Romans through Philemon, written by Paul). That faith alone saves us. However, what James says in James 2:24, " So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone,” hints to works saving us along with faith, but there is no contradiction. Context tells it all, let us check it out.
