Genetic Disorder and Genetic Mutation:
“A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by an abnormality in an individual's DNA. Abnormalities can be as small as a single-base mutation in just one gene, or they can involve the addition or subtraction of entire chromosomes.” [Source: Learn. Genetics. Gene Mutations occurs in 3 ways:
Insertion: adding an additional base pair to the DNA sequence.
Deletion: deleting the one base pair in a sequence of DNA
Substitution: incorrect base pairing, resulting in a faulty DNA sequence.
Most of Gene Mutation that occur are repaired by the cell before any damage is done. Very few of the Mutations in the DNA will be present, and these often have little to no effect on the organism.

Current technologies can subdue Down Syndrome but not cured it.
New technologies and techniques (Genetic Engineering etc.) hold much promise as future cures for genetic disorders, but more research is needed before a cure is possible.
But with continues improvements happening all over the world in the fields of Medicine and Genetics, the current limits on what Genetic Engineering is able to do will be removed. And the information gathered from Crispr-Cas9 studies and research will only lead to shorter time for the improvements in Genetic Engineering to take place.
With the current rate at which technology – in all fields – is improving and increasing, it is merely a matter of when, not if, Genetic Engineering will be able to undo Trisomy 21 – removing all copies of the third chromosome from the entire body – and cure Down Syndrome.
