I chose this book because I wanted to learn more about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and more specifically, better understand this anxiety disorder from a first-person account. The author, Jeff Bell, is a radio broadcaster based in San Francisco. The book begins with Bell describing his earliest memory of OCD. He is seven or eight years old and in bed, recalling an incident from two days ago.

An example would be for a month, my mother decided to go to China for her own enjoyment. Since she was the only person who normally cooked and cleaned the house, when she left, her responsibilities all came crashing down onto my brother and I. On school days, I discovered that I could not keep up with balancing homework and cooking every day. Another discovery I made is that my brother was not as helpful as he could have been either. There were times when I felt completely fed up with him; especially when it came to making the lunches because he would always wake up late despite me telling him to wake up earlier to help.
The most traumatic could possibly be the suicides of his brother Jimmy or his sister Fern. In the novel he went on to say how surprising Fern’s death was to him. He often told himself that Fern ‘fell’ from the window rather than jumped. According to an article written by Ryan

There are many different types of transitions people go through in life. When I was five years old, my parents divorced. I then became angry and unruly, and in my teens I got involved in drugs, gangs, and was even sent to juvenile hall. I also got pregnant at a young age. This forced me to become an adult when it wasn 't necessary to. I could go on, but honestly I 'd end up writing a book about my life and I don 't think anyone wants to know what I 've gone through.
When I was young, I was raised in poverty and never lived in the same place for more than 15 months. I have said of my difficult childhood, "I never was a child. I never was cuddled, or liked, or understood by my family. " I grew much taller that my peers.
The two alliances – NATO and the Warsaw Pact were established as the unions of opposing forces counterbalancing the Western world and the Soviet Union. After the World War II Europe was still facing the threat of the militarist nationalism on the continent, as well as was trying to prevent the uncontrollable expansion of the Soviet Union. For this purpose an alliance between the European countries and the United States had been concluded to ensure the presence of the American forces, supporting the placidity in Europe. The members of the Warsaw pact – a communist alliance – were the Soviet Union, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), Hungary, Poland and Romania. By this pact they united against the
In her graphic memoir Fun Home, Allison Bechdel puts forth the experience of shared homosexuality as the major connection that binds her to her father, concluding her meandering analysis of the man and his relationship to her with a chapter centered around an episode in which they both acknowledge their queerness. This connection is absolutely a valid one. However, in framing this episode as the culminating event in the father/daughter relationship Fun Home portrays, Bechdel fails to offer overt acknowledgment of the ways in which her text supports alternate readings of this dynamic: namely that both Alison and Bruce share the common affliction of mental illness and a common need for control. Bechdel's decision not to emphasize a connection
I have been in many different family dynamics. I can relate to the people who have both parents in their life and I can relate to the people who don’t have any parents. This period of my life is where I grew the most. It is the period when I realized I get to choose my outcome. I can choose to be angry for the rest of my life or I can choose to be happy and look at the past
