In the book Soledad foreword by Jonathan Jackson,Jr. George Jackson writes a letter to his mother on page 40-42, he writes a letter explaining their relationship. I believe that George Jackson didn't receive the typical relationship of a mother and a son. A relationship between a mother and son should involve trust, love, and kindness. The relationship should be caring, forgiving, protecting, and supportive.There should be teaching and learning from both the mother and the son. I think this because of my experiences with my own mother. My mother and I trust each other and we love each other. My mother is protective, supportive, and she forgives me for anything and everything do. I also think this way because of how a relationship between a mother and son look like in happy and joyful movies.
George didn't have a typical relationship with his mother, there was betrayal and judgement. George's mother was unforgiving. In the book it says that George’s mother put his education in the hands of white folks, making him learn everything he now knows on his own which is betrayal in his eyes. In the book it also says " She kept telling me how wrong I was and making me feel guilty. All of this I now understand, but again cannot forgive her" , this is showing that George's …show more content…

In the book George says, “they’re trying to forget their problems or pretend that they have none. It’s easier that way, easier than grabbing the bull by the horns.” George is saying that instead of people dealing with their problems they ignore them. People ignore their problems because it’s easier than dealing with it. I agree with George, people ignore their problems and focus on something else. I’ve ignored problems too, me and my mother got into an argument and I just ignored her. Instead of trying to talk it out i just stayed away or just talked about about something else. George’s message is to face your problems instead of ignoring
