In the novel 1984 the story starts out in the year 1984, well the charter is not positive if the year is 1984. The is very different than what we see today, well we think anyways. This novel starts in the time where the government has all control over every person in Oceania. This is a time with no privacy and no self awareness. Now many believe that George Orwell’s novel foreshadowed the future of the United States, well they may be true. The words in this novel outline how we live today but how. This is where the comparison come into play, although our world may not look as 1984 look the underlying cause and issues are questionably similar. I will give you a look into the frightening similarity of 1984 and 2017.
What do I mean by no self awareness you may ask, well these men and woman can have no thought for themselves. They are controlled solely by the “party”, they are proles and outer party members. They have telescreens in their living rooms and are constantly reminded about the party watching them. The party is the government, they give no freedom especially to the members of the outer party. The people are not informed on what is really happening in the state of Oceania therefore the strength does not lie in the people the strength lies in the government. Keeping the citizens uninformed allows the government to only release the information they want the state to have knowledge of. Ignorance in the people allows the government to have full control of every person living in Oceania. This saying is also true to this day, considering the government does not allow us to know everything. We know what they want us to know, although they do allow us to know a part of most things a lot of what we see and hear today is fake
