Slavery is a condition in which individuals are owned by others, who control where they live and at what they work. Slavery had previously existed throughout history, in many times and most places. African American slaves often fought in the Revolution in aspiration of gaining freedom and took up arms again during the Civil War for the same reason.

First, in Thomas Jefferson on Race and Slavery, Thomas stated that all men were created equal. However, we suspect black people to be inferior to the white nation. the differences between both individuals are the color. Jefferson had assumed that the abolition of the slave trade would weaken slavery and hasten its end. Instead, slavery became more widespread and profitable. White Americans and enslaved blacks constituted two “separate nations” who could not live together peacefully in the same country.

Second, in George Tucker on Gabriel's Rebellion, He and his conspirators plotted to march on Richmond, VA, kill some whites, and hold others a hostage (including the Governor) until their demands for freedom from slavery were met. The plot was discovered and twenty-six slaves were hanged as a result.
