The novel 1776 by David McCullough tells the story of George Washington and his perseverance through the war, making him a successful general and leader. The novel focuses solely on the year of 1776, the year that America gained its independence. This gives McCullough the opportunity to provide great detail about battles, events, and most importantly, George Washington. The book describes Washington as both a leader and a general because of his great qualities in both areas. In the sections of the book where America is brought up, Washington is always brought up as well.
George Washington who is referred to as the "Father of the United States" played an important role in the French and Indian War. As I read in the preface of The War that Made America by Fred Anderson, I learned that “George Washington struck the first spark of a war that set the British North American frontier ablaze. ”(Preface) He was a 21 year old man who was raw and ambitious when he was sent to Ohio. Washington had no idea of the pivotal figure he would become in the start of the French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, and how it would change the face of America.
George Washington was the first president of the United States. During his presidency, he faced many conflicts. Britain was at war with France and both countries wanted America on their side. America was also in debt and needed to pay Britain back. Despite these conflicts, George Washington protected the rights of the American people better than Adams because he kept America safe from war and protected their amendments.

George Washington’s military involvement began when he joined the Virginia militia. This included dangerous missions he accomplished in delivering messages from Governor Dinwiddie to the French in Ohio Valley. Due to his heroism, Washington was appointed to command the Virginia militia forces.
There are a plethora of major contributions George Washington has made to this country that have been discussed throughout this class. His contributions range from military to politics and far beyond. Not only did George Washington have a tremendous effect on the lives of Americans during his time but he also has shaped the history of this country forever. His impact has shaped the political system as well as other areas and his ideas and contributions are still upheld today. The three main reasons I believe George Washington has made a significant contribution to history are he was a leader in the American revolution, he helped write the united states constitution, also he was the first president of the united states and made many political contributions to this country.
In the United States, there are many famous people, inventions, and wars. In Washington D.C., there are many monuments celebrating and remembering these famous people and events. One memorial, a couple miles south of Washington D.C., is Mount Vernon, also known as the home of George Washington. The property is more than just his home; it is his birthplace, his home, and it is his grave. Mount Vernon was built long before George Washington, but for 45 years, he almost completely remodeled and expanded the home to reflect his status as a Virginia gentleman.

The commander was crucial in securing independence from Great Britain for America. Washington's leadership and military success earned him the admiration and respect of his fellow patriots. He became one of the most popular and influential figures in American history. Electing the first president of the United States was an easy choice, and Washington won unanimously.

He chose to be called Mr. President as opposed to the title of being called a King, he then created the Presidential Cabinet, established the term limit of two terms for Presidency and was first President to create foreign policy.
