Gordon S. Wood, “the preeminent historian of the Revolution”, is a well known American historian who has received several awards such as the Pulitzer and Bancroft Prize for his historical books. In his book, The American Revolution: A History, he breaks down the key events based on his experiences and knowledge on the Revolutionary period. Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts on November 27,1933. Wood teaches at many liberal renowned universities such as Brown, Cambridge, Northwestern , and Harvard. Now being eighty one years old, he recently retired from Brown University and lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
What if George Washington had died prior to the American Revolutionary War? General George Washington was not only the first president of the United States of America, but he was also the leader of the Patriots during combat. In the historical fiction book Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, the win by the Patriots at Princeton is described as a major win. The Patriots held prisoners, so the British started treating their prisoners better (ch. XL).
George Washington had an extremely compelling influence in the French and Indian War. Amid the American Revolution, George Washington was a commander in the Continental Army, he was an officer in Virginia 's common local army, and he went ahead to the first president of the United States of America. George Washington 's journey through the French and Indian war began only right before the war. At the point when George Washington was sent to the Ohio Valley, he was only twenty-one years old, and went to confront the French, ascending in numbers in that specific district. He was sent there because at that location, the Ohio River was connected to the Mississippi River, and was an integral part to trade.
When I look at the George Washington picture I notice how the artist uses lighter colors to make Washington stand out among his achievements, such as the crumpled up British flag in the left hand corner. When I see this article of art I think that Washington must have been a wonderful officer and won many battles. However, when I add what I have learned about Washington it changes how I see the picture because Washington was not always a great general, he made mistakes but he learned from them. He learned a lot from his first battle at Fort Necessity in the French and Indian War, which helped him adopt the strategic defensive he used in the revolutionary war to help his men stay alive and keep fighting to show that American would not back down.
A very interesting time after the French and Indian War. There were a lot of things that caught my attention in this chapter. One being the fact that the French and local tribes worked together to fight the British as well as trade and supply one another for survival. Another was how Pontiac’s Rebellion and the Paxton Boys’ were early American race wars. It is not surprising that no one could identify or wanted to identify any of the murderers from the Paxton Boys.
During the Revolutionary War the British were the strongest naval and land force in the world. This was due to their ability to expertly fight by lining up and firing directly at each other. From the day that America signed the Declaration of Independence to the very end of the Revolutionary War the colonists and General Washington had to use different strategies to defeat the British. The first example of his unconventional methods was at the battle of Yorktown. General Washington and the French had General Cornwallis trapped by land and sea and they forced him to surrender.
On June 15, 1775, Washington was appointed Major General and Commander-in-Chief of colonial forces. Washington was the colonies’ best choice because he had experience, had been advising the congress, and the biggest factor that went into it was that if he had not been given the job Virginia, a key colony in the resistance, would have backed out. Washington’s troops were not very successful and they lost many battles, but they were victorious in March of 1776 when they forced the British to withdraw from Boston. He then moved his troops to New York City where they fought in the largest battle of the revolution. The british army launched an attack that killed 2,800 men.
The French and Indian War was important to the American Revolution because the debt from the war was the reason that Parliament started taxing the colonists. Also, the French and Indian War made Britain very weak, making the colonists’ actions work a whole lot better. Since France was not happy with the outcome of their war with Britain this was a main reasons for France’s interest in helping the now Americans throughout the Revolutionary War, which was very important to the colonies’ victory. The reason why Britain started to tax the colonists was because of the debt resulting from the French and Indian War. The first tax was the the tax on sugar, which was put on the colonists to help pay off the war debt.
Washington was an amazing leader with many problems and still had victories. He trained a group of men who were not fit for war. The colonial army consisted of farmers and commoners, not highly trained fighters. They fought with Washington for freedom. With how poorly these men were prepared for way, the outcome should be totally different.
When countries expand there are wars, deaths, anger, tension, loved ones die. Loved ones die in the French and Indian war but parties wanted more land. In the donner party they wanted land for themselves, but they didn’t get anything and now only two are left. In the French and Indian War both parties wanted to get more land and expand their country so people can get more land for people to live and for the party to get bigger and they fought over the chance to get it, but there were so many casualties on both sides for example 2,200 Indians died and 50,000 regulars of the militia died most people were loved by their family.
The Revolutionary War was a pivotal and telling war for the young and inexperienced colonies of America. This was war was one of the most important wars in the history of our country. It established the United States as its own independent country and created many of the guidelines and rights that we still follow to this day. The Revolutionary war would start the immense feeling of Patriotism and freedom found in every American's heart. But, none of this would have been possible without George Washington and his many spy rings that he ran and used to collect essential intel on the British and their strategies and plans.
George Washington was a very amazing man. He played a very important role in the Revolutionary War. He was a successful leader of the fight for independence. He was an amazing president. He made the government better.
George Washington early life was full of ups and downs, Born February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Va., George Washington was the first son of his father Augustine 's second marriage; his mother was the former Mary Ball of Epping Forest. When George was about three, his family moved to Little Hunting Creek on the Potomac, then to Ferry Farm opposite Fredericksburg on the Rappahannock River in King George County. Washington’s father died in 1743, and young George grew restive under his mother 's management. He proposed at one point to follow the sea, but instead divided his adolescence among the households of relatives, finding a home and a model in his half-brother Lawrence at Mount Vernon.
Matthew, Great question! I agreed with Adam that the Continental Congress can be considered the drive of the Revolutionary War. As the Continental Congress is a sign of resistance towards the British as they decided on the separation and declaring war, all show signs of wanting independence. We can also argue that the first Continental Congress as the first real government in America. The small body of government put together the Declaration of Independence and considered themselves as the forerunner of America 's independent government.
The French-Indian War of 1754-1763 resulted in political, ideological, and economic alterations within Britain and its American colonies. The French and Indian War, also referred to as The Seven Years War, began with British and French conflicts across the Ohio River Valley, as both nations wanted to claim the land for themselves. The first blood of the French-Indian War began with multiple British failures, including Washington’s dreadful defeat at Fort Necessity and General Braddock’s failed attempt at conquering Fort Duquesne, in which he died along with two-thirds of his army (Document C). The British would, however, gain momentum in 1759 with multiple victories, including their most significant triumph, Quebec.
