George Washington was a very amazing man. He played a very important role in the Revolutionary War. He was a successful leader of the fight for independence. He was an amazing president. He made the government better. George Washington’s early life, presidency, and after presidency are fun things to learn about. He had many great legacies.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His father was Augustine Washington, who owned over 10,000 acres of land, owned slaves, built mills, and grew tobacco. Augustine died when George was 11 years old. Washington’s mother was Mary Ball. She was a protective mother. He had 2 half brothers, three brothers, and 1 sister. George Washington was home schooled in Colonial Virginia. He never went to college (http://www.biography.com/). He was in office for 2 terms which is also 8 years (http://www.biography.com/). Political parties didn’t exist when Washington was the president because he didn’t like the idea. So he wasn’t in any political parties (http://www.laughtergenealogy.com/). The Vice President was John Adams. One of the important events that occurred while George was president was the Whiskey Rebellion. The Whiskey Rebellion occurred because Pennsylvania farmers were refusing to pay a tax. Washington sent John Jay to Britain to negotiate the Jay Treaty to secure peace with Britain and clear up some issues (http://americanhistory.about.com/).
