Thanks to good leadership, clever tactics, and the help of other countries, the colonists were able to gain independence. In the American Revolution good leadership played a key role in the colonists victory. George Washington was one of many great leaders that helped the colonists gain freedom. Since the beginning Washington believed the colonists should separate from Britain. He was a delegate in the First Continental Congress and was named commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the Second Continental Congress.
I think that George Washington had a dramatic impact on the U.S. because he was the first president and he issued the Neutrality Proclamation. George Washington was the first elected president of the United States. (pg 183) This was important to our country because Washington set the standard for the future presidents. After Washington had helped in the Revolutionary War, the people liked him a lot.
George Washington was indispensable in launching the U.S government. Although many opposed his political views at the time, Washington's leadership capabilities were unquestionable after his victory in the American Revolution. Our victory over Great Britain would have been doubtful if not for Washington and his judgement. Before becoming president, Washington led in drafting the Constitution, which is the foundation of America. When he became president, Washington believed in unity and a strong central power.

George Washington’s military involvement began when he joined the Virginia militia. This included dangerous missions he accomplished in delivering messages from Governor Dinwiddie to the French in Ohio Valley. Due to his heroism, Washington was appointed to command the Virginia militia forces.
George Washington’s presidency did couple key things. First, it established the unwritten rule that a President was only supposed to serve two terms in office. This unwritten rule was only ever broken by Franklin Roosevelt during WW II, and it later became an Amendment to the Constitution. Second, Washington talked at great length about isolationism in his farewell address, specifically citing that America should avoid foreign entanglements in Europe.

During the revolutionary war, with his army’s back against the wall, he led his men to keep fighting with a great speech after a win on Christmas day 1776 in Trenton. “You will permit me to put on my spectacles, for I have not only grown gray but almost blind in the service of my country.” A controversy surrounding George Washington was he owned and sold human beings from age 11 to his death. Despite his flaws, he made a significant impact on the development of the United States.
The people had observed Washington's leadership in the American Revolutionary war, so they wanted him to be America's first president. History. The antebellum period took place before the civil war. During this time period, one can thoroughly see accomplishments of the presidents in charge during that time. There is one who stood out the most based on my criteria and his outstanding achievements and it was George Washington . He was one with the most accomplishments, foreign policies and impacted the union the most after his presidency. Being in charge of a nation is never easy no matter how much experience or prepared one is, issues are always going to arise whether it be political, economic,or social issues.
The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. Because of this, they were justified in rebelling and declaring independence. One reason why the colonists decided to rebel and declare independence was because of taxation.
It was known at the beginning of the Revolutionary War that America wanted to steer away from England's monarchy rule and move on to a better solution that was designed to protect the people. It was unclear, however, what that solution was. Once America had won its independence, there was little time for celebration. This new country now had to figure out how it was going to govern itself. With King George III gone, there were some very large shoes to fill, and a General George Washington was the man to fill them.
Although unrelatable and underappreciated in the eyes of modern history, George Washington shows his greatness through his character. Contemporary culture often neglects to recognise Washington’s greatness. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.
No American today could imagine a country without a president, or without Washington, because if the patriots had not had George who was “…determined…to cross the river & make the attack upon Trenton…” (Washington), the United States of America would not even exist. George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia (Knott). Washington never got beyond elementary school, however due to a skill in math, got a job with Lord Fairfax, a powerful businessman (Knott). After inheriting Mount Vernon because of his brother’s death, Washington joined the British Army (Knott).
The American Revolution or also known as The War of Independence was brought on by American colonists. The colonists felt the taxations and limitations oppressed onto the Americans by British was worth fighting for their rights. The Americans had George Washington as their general, and Washington had an itch to keep the moral of the colonists alive during the hard times. In the times of The American Revolution, the Second Continental Congress emerged and voted for freedom from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin came together and formed a document stating the colonists’ intent to gain independence from Great Britain.
