George makes the correct decision in shooting Lennie because Lennie is happy when he dies instead of being afraid and in pain as he would be if he had died another way. George has to kill or turn in Lennie because Lennie committed murder and George has the responsibility to deal with him. George deserves freedom from Lennie’s mistakes and by killing Lennie, he receives that liberty. Lennie is not a bad person. He has a good heart and does not mean to do the bad things he does.
It is the hardest thing George will ever do, he just killed his best friend, but at the same time George saves Lennie from being tortured by Curley and the other men. He did the right thing in the end by putting him out of his
Through George’s journey in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck conveys that fate creates a quester’s path, no matter how much effort and willpower is put into getting to what the quester thinks is their final destination. George has a place to go and a goal to reach, but he doesn’t end up where he wants to. English Literature Professor Thomas C. Foster’s explanation of a quest includes a quester, the quester having a place to go, and a goal they know they want to reach. George having a place to go is shown in the beginning of the book, when George and Lennie are on their way to the new ranch.
" Pulling the trigger might have been a hard thing for George because killing Lennie would ruin their dreams this shows that George thought the best thing for lennie now was for him to die because he was already in so much trouble because of what he did in weed with the girl in the red dress and now he killed Curley 's wife so George didn 't want him to get himself into anymore problems so it was the best for him , this is why he killed Lennie it would be the best thing to do to not do anything more like hurting
If Lennie was not killed or put into prison, he could go to an asylum which is much worse. George needed to do it himself. He couldn’t let some stranger do this to Lennie, it had to be him. George was going to have to face this at some point. George does not want to kill Lennie and is having a difficult time doing so.
The way that George killed Lennie was a quick and unpainful way. If he had not shot Lennie in the back of the head, things for Lennie would have been much worse. Even Curley says, “When you see ‘um, don’t give ‘im no chance. Shoot for his guts. That’ll double ‘im over” (Steinbeck 97).
Curly was going to torture Lennie, and he said this multiple times, like,” shoot him in the gut, that will double him over”. That means no mercy, make him suffer. Curly also said,” don’t kill him, leave him to me.” That means let Curly take him out with an easy kill. So would it be right to let someone torture him?
That George got rid of the burden that Lennie was to him. On the other hand, George also knows what Lennie is capable of and knows what Lennie has done in the past. For example, the thing that happened in weed, “So he reaches out to feel this red dress an’ the girl lets out a squawk, and that gets Lennie all mixed up, and he holds on ‘cause that’s the only thing he can think to do” (Steinbeck 41). Lennie panics too much and just freaks people out, so George put Lennie out of his confusion. In the end, George murdering his friend was well justified.
A big search party with Curley in the lead is about to find Lennie and kill him. Luckily,
Killing his best friend was justified though, for one George and Lennie were always on the move because Lennie always messed up, two, in the end when Lennie messed up again, Curly was going to make him suffer for killing his wife and breaking his hand. Third, George had to kill Lennie because lennie would have done it again. Throughout the book, George mentions that he is tired of moving around from place to place. Every time they settle down Lennie goes and messes everything up.
John Steinbeck’s novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ is a tragic story that takes place during the great depression where two workers/companions ,George and Lennie, work on a ranch together. There they overcome many obstacles to get closer to achieving their dream of living on a farm together; More so tending the rabbits for Lennie. Because Lennie has a mental illness, George is obligated be by his side and make sure he doesn't get himself into any trouble. In order to do the right thing in life, one must make tough decisions that may not seem understandable. Candy who is a fellow worker at the ranch owns a very old dog that depends on him to live.”
At times, George has mentioned how nice and loyal Lennie is and that he will do anything he tells Lennie. Additionally, George murdered Lennie because he always gets him and George in trouble because he does not know how to handle situations, for example, when Lennie grabbed the ladies red dress in weed and did not let go when she started screaming. Yet George keeps Lennie in check and makes sure that Lennie knows what to do when things go wrong, so he does not get them in
Being a good decision maker is almost impossible. Decision making could be easy like, eating a green or red apply; but it can be hard to. This book is called Of Mice And Men and it was written by John Steinbeck. Of Mice And Men was published some time in 1937. Of Mice And Men was not the only book John wrote, he also wrote a famous novel called Grapes Of Wrath.
To say this as kind as possible, George’s dreams were in an uncrackable safe and Lennie was the safe itself. Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, was my favorite story that I read this year. The characters were interesting and there wasn’t a lot of characters either, which I liked. I also enjoyed the plot twist at the end and probably wouldn’t have ever saw it coming if I didn’t have it spoiled for me.
George’s decision to kill Lennie was ultimately for his benefit. “The hand shook violently, but his (George) face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger” (Steinbeck 106). The quote which states how Lennie dies also shows that George was nervous and hesitant in killing Lennie. Scarseth explains in the article, “Friendship.
