Daniel Larson Mr. Irby English 3 5, March 2024 Murder or Euthanasia What is the difference between murder and euthanasia? Murder is unjustifiably killing someone, and euthanasia is a painless killing of someone with an uncurable disfunction. In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George shoots and kills Lennie for an action he had done earlier in the book. George is forced to take care of Lennie because of his autism. Lennie loves touching soft things and near the end Of Mice and Men, Lennie kills Curly’s Wife by snapping her neck when feeling her hair. Lennie then runs and George finds him and shoots him in the back of the head. So, the question is if George committed a murder, or his decision to kill Lennie was justified, all things considered, Lennies death was euthanasia. …show more content…

George killed Lennie because he thought Lennie was worthless, as said in an earlier book about Candy’s Dog. Although Candy did mention that he wished he had killed his own dog, and that made George realize that if he does not do it then he will get killed by someone else because of his autism. Another reason George murdered Lennie is that George is tired of having Lennie around because he is a pain and always forgets things George tells him. Being around Lennie limits how George lives his life. Then again, George liked being with Lennie. At times, George has mentioned how nice and loyal Lennie is and that he will do anything he tells Lennie. Additionally, George murdered Lennie because he always gets him and George in trouble because he does not know how to handle situations, for example, when Lennie grabbed the ladies red dress in weed and did not let go when she started screaming. Yet George keeps Lennie in check and makes sure that Lennie knows what to do when things go wrong, so he does not get them in
