Once having beautiful and expensive clothing, having the most well done hair do’s. Having grand homes with imported furniture. Having a business with good pay, able to take care of your family. Being able to go worship you faith. Was all taken away so quickly and so painfully. Being the country to get all the blame for World War I, Germany was in such great depth and times were tough. The German people had little to nothing and money was scarce. In 1939, World War II broke out, Adolf Hitler rose to power at the right moment and was able to take over Germany. The Jewish people (along with other religions) became prisoners of their own country. Having been striped from thier daily lives the world for them was about to change.

They would first put their personal belongings on the a wagon and it would never been seen again. Before getting their “Striped uniforms” ("Uniform and Clothing 1”). When Elie and his father got to the camp they were separated from his mother and sister, this was very common most families would never be seen again, the two groups that they had. The groups were by gender. Which then would be broken up in to smaller work groups. The guards would then make all men and women, take off their clothes, and make them run to the disinfecting station. With a very painful disinfecting bath to sit in, they were able to afterward for a very short timer take a quick shower to rinse off. They would then shave the Jews of any hair on their bodies, “exposing them to all” ("'Fashion in Auschwitz' 8). Finally, after being cleaned of to just get dirty again, they would hand out their new clothing that would be worn for about a six weeks, depending on what job they had or if they were killed, then they were able to get new
