COLOSTOMY As part of the activities we had to partake in class, I found the wearing of colostomy bag as the most challenging so I decided to wear the bag. This essay will describe my experience using the Gibb’s reflective model. Description Action Feelings Conclusion Evaluation Analysis Gibbs Reflective Cycle. I wanted to find out some possible reactions from people so I intentionally exposed it to some friends I was comfortable around and told them it was a fake bag with poo. I was shocked at their behaviour and how they would not let me come closer to them because of that. What I could not elicit from their response was whether they were not sympathizing with me because I was well and did not have to keep a poo in a bag and hang to myself or they would behave same to real people who are on …show more content…

I was stable most of the times and did not feel it was emotionally challenging enough because I could take it off at any time. As a result, this experiment did lack the psychological or emotional impact which I believe colostomy patients may be facing. Tao, Songwathana. et al. (2014) concludes that colostomy patients’ face physical changes associated with body image, sexual dysfunction and bowel movement pattern. They also experience change in lifestyle including their diet, work, dressing, intimate behaviour, social activity and dressing. This change eventually causes psychosocial challenges such as depression, anxiety, embarrassment, self-inferiority, stigmatization, loss of personal control amongst several
