People living in countries that are poor are considered resourceful. Family´s in Africa that barely have enough food, somehow make due with what they have and find a way to eat. And with the limited supplies that they havem they still build houses and some live joyous lives with the little they have. But with the scenarios these people in poverty are placed in, they still make the best of what seems to be a living hell. They surpass the slim posibility of survival and are actually joyous with how little they have.
Many people believe that to be rich one has to have money, but there are many different ways to be wealthy. Humans can be considered to be rich when they have money and objects that other people would also like to have. However, some people are rich with experiences, knowledge, or religion and do not have cars or homes of monetary value. This is the case with one of two brothers who are both rich but in different ways in the writing “The Rich Brother” by Tobias Wolff.
Poverty was the life and death of Jesus. This is a privilege because poverty allows a stronger connection with Jesus because he lives through similar situations. It shows people that others can survive and be in poverty. The antidote to poverty is relationship, which is the connection between God. They believed that goods and services were sent from God.
Langston Hughes compared America to a telephone book. A telephone book is grouped in alphabetical order, so it does not matter if you are rich or poor, everyone is in the telephone book and a rich person might just be listed
“The Gift of the Magi” brings about a sweet, wholesome example of classic irony. A couple without money wish to give each other a gift for Christmas, but find themselves lacking the funds to do so. In the end, they both end up selling their most valuable possessions to purchase their presents for each other.
The word “rich” can take on quite a few different meanings, depending both on one's interpretation of the word and the context in which it is used. Most people instinctively assume that its definition focuses solely on the possession of a great source of monetary wealth; however, the word can also represent an abundance, and, in having that abundance, obtaining a sense of fulfillment or wholeness with it. In “The Rich Brother,” a short story written by Tobias Wolff, two brothers named Pete and Donald are both portrayed as rich, but in completely different ways. Pete possesses a vast amount of money while Donald finds his richness through being kind, generous, and religious. In reading "The Rich Brother," a superficial reader might assume that
The world stereotypes rich people as rude, stuck up and selfish. Ever wonder why? Studies from Yale, The New York Times, TED and more have concluded, money changes everything. Whether it’s attitude, morals or values, money can affect and change all aspects of someone’s life. The play, A Raisin in the Sun, has a theme showing this claim clearly.
Views about wealth can be different from every people. Some believes that wealth can solve every problem and provide happiness and others believe that wealth is not really the most important thing in the world. It just depends on what the person wants from being wealthy or how they want to use it in their lives. Two authors, Guy de Maupassant the author of “The Necklace”, and Chinua Achebe the author of “Civil Peace”, wrote short stories where views on materialism are portrayed by characters in similar and in different ways. Madame Loisel from “The Necklace” is a middle class woman who always dreams of becoming rich but ended being poor because of valuing the necklace more than anything to her that caused her happiness at first but years of suffering after .

People in poverty are generally portrayed as worthless and this is because culture today illustrates a man’s worth from how materially successful they are. Hooks explains how this kind of representation of the poor can mentally and emotionally handicap and entire society of people in poverty. She goes into an example of how a
The author wants the reader to continously think about what poverty means to her, such as “Poverty is being tired” in paragraph 3, “Poverty is dirt” in paragraph 4, and “Poverty is looking into a black future.” in paragraph 10. This reminds the audience that not everyone suffers from poverty in the same way. For the author, poverty is having to take care of family when all the odds are against you, and this is what gives the reader a perfect understanding of it. As stated in the passage, “Listen to me.
“Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness,” states Napoleon Hill, an American author. This quote reveals that if something will become great, it requires great sacrifice. Correspondingly, this incident happens in the short story, “The Gift of the Magi,” by O. Henry, when a couple with the names Della and Jim sacrifice in order to make each other happy, despite hard times. I claim that the theme of the story, “The Gift of the Magi,” is great treasure comes with sacrifice and tough challenges. One dramatic challenge that Della and Jim have to withstand is living on a low budget.
Poverty is general scarcity or dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Poverty seems to be chronic or temporary, and most of the time it is closely related to inequality. However, since the Sri Lankan government won’t let his family take their money to Canada, they would only have “five hundred pounds each” (309) in terms of money, “[t]he thought of being this poor scares [Arjie]”) (309). Therefore, this realization makes Arjie more humble in terms of wealth, and allows him to see the world from a new light.
