Being that the 3rd wave has multiple aspects compared to the first two waves, there are different goals. Instead of focusing on laws and politics, the target is to focus more on a woman’s identity from all religions, cultures, and ethnicities. Previously, the main focus was on upper class white women. However, there are still political issues to work out such as the glass ceiling and social inequality. Many more women identify themselves as feminists and are more accepting of the idea, making it easier to talk about specific subjects. Being a feminist in the previous waves, especially the first, was considered to be radical. It was not “normal” to hold that label Over time, there have been branches created off of the first wave of feminism. Today, there are many diverse groups who call themselves feminists who have separate goals from one another. Liberal feminists focus on equal rights between the sexes. Radical feminists focus on eliminating the male supremacy and patriarchy. Marxist feminists focus on how capitalism affects women. Black feminists focus on racism and ethnicity in the feminist movement. All of these groups want more for women as a whole, but all have different approaches to the current situation. The Glass Ceiling is an unofficial barrier to advancement in a certain profession by women and minority groups no matter their achievement or qualifications. This specifically affects women and minority groups in the work force. When thinking of successful business personnel, most think of a white man in a suit and tie, not a black or a middle eastern women.
