In Gloria Watkin’s essay “keeping close to home,” she reflects on her childhood and certain events that helped her to form her values. She recalls how her parents were one of the conflicting sources for shaping her values. For example, her parents give books to her and supported her to be educated, but at the same time threaten to burn the books if she didn’t confirm to their expectation of her.
