The goal behind the metaphors is to essentially brainstorm to generate some useful ideas. I feel like overseeing any sports team is like being supervisor, as supervisors manage people or an activity. Supervising is good for overseeing, much like controlling a sports team. I also made the case for general managers as well, general managers has overall responsibility for managing. Superintendent and Inspectors are good for having a high level of importance than a supervisor. Team Managers are in charge of organizing team activities. Debates argue about a subject, especially in a formal manner so I think the reason why they relate is that smart thinking that allows you to have facts to back your claim.
