Walden by Henry Thoreau focuses on the idea of simplicity. In Walden, one finds that life consists of many factors and they tend to burden themselves with challenging experiences. Henry sought out to find and learn about the deeper meaning of life. Thoreau felt that it was unnecessary to go through complex tasks to obtain this goal. He thought it was possible to simplify the actions he took and still achieve a fulfilling and successful life. In order to do so one must take simplicity into account. Within one’s life there are goals and attributes of successful living. These goals and attributes of life are hard to come by especially if one sets high standards. The world wouldn’t be where it is now without the goals people set. Unfortunately, one does not need to have all the desires in the world to achieve the happiest life. Our world does not live simply. The world is a working machine that never takes a break . People don’t sit back and realize how much time and effort is wasted on something they are unsatisfied with. People busy themselves with useless work to dig deeper into the depths of life. Thoreau said “Let us spend one day as deliberately as Nature, and not be thrown off the track by every nutshell and mosquito’s wing that falls on the rails.” (Thoreau). It represents how one should try to avoid complications. One shouldn’t worry about every single thing in life. Thoreau believes life needs to flow smoothly.
