To fear and respect God is one of the foundational outcomes we strive to acquire by the time we graduate. In Frankenstein by Marry Shelley one of the aspects of the “portrait of a PCA graduate” is to fear and respect God. This characteristic is how not how Frankenstein thinks he needs to fear and respect God. In my readings of Frankenstein he never really grasps the concept of God and he only wants to emulate God. I have realized after analyzing Frankenstein and my life as a PCA student “that one’s true identity is secure in Christ”(Col. 2:9-10). As Victor Frankenstein did not fear or respect God it has shown me that I need to fear and respect God so that I can live a safe and fulfilling life. The theme in Frankenstein of revenge has taken over and controlled his life he needs to acquire a more biblical lens of life. The “Portrait of a Graduate” shows us many foundational virtues many of these Victor does not have and it shows me that I need to fear and respect God. To fear God does not mean to be afraid of him but to understand what he is and can do and show him reverence. To respect him is to appreciate what all he has done for us and what all we owe to him and the life he gave us. We should respect him because of the life he gave up for us. Victor lived a life of revenge and it caught up too him being he never lived a fulfilling life for Christ. In my life I plan to implement the thinking of a “portrait of a Graduate” in my every day life. I hope to be able to fear and respect God unlike the way Victor did not fear and respect God. In my life I am not the greatest person and I rarely every successfully fear and respect him the way I should. Victor wanted to be like God and never feared or respected him this causes his eventual downturn in life and impending death. Victor
