Retail is a cutthroat opportunity, even those not running a business are quite aware that this statement is true. You are constantly running a fast-paced race with other competitors who are competing for the same prize and unfortunately, sometimes you lose. Sport Chalet took the participation medal on this one and was closed down in mid-2016. Sport Chalet was a store that sold sports equipment for many different sports, but they mostly pertained to the more well-known sports and activities. They also didn't utilize the Internet as a great resource to reach out to their target market. For these reasons and others, Sport Chalet unfortunately closed all of their stores in 2016.

This is enhanced when it comes to sports since you want to have exactly the right equipment to be able to thrive to the best of your ability. While playing a sport, it become your life and your equipment becomes your Oxygen; you need it. Sport Chalet did carry a big supply of sports equipment, but they mainly focused on the well-known sports instead of all of them. Also if they did carry a less played sports' equipment, then they didn't have much of it. Say someone came in looking for a piece of equipment that wasn't for a common sport and they couldn't find it, well they more than likely wouldn't shop there again and would probably spread the message on to their friends and family. While they did have online options, they didn't use social media like they should have. Social Media is the way everyone connects with everyone else nowadays and since Sport Chalet wasn't up with the new trends, they paid the price. They could've just created a Twitter or Instagram page or put out more ad's just so they could stick it out a little longer and also to get ahead of their competitors. One of their rivals 'Big 5' has a Twitter and Instagram account and they are still around now, I'm sure if Sport Chalet did the same they might just still be
