Going Solo, Roald Dahl's memoir of his work in East Africa and his service in the RAF, covers much of the buildup to World War II. In the book mention is made of the language Swahili. The language plays a large role in the memoir as communication Dahl says about Swahili that "...to learn Swahili " (p.25). In fact, Swahili is important to the people in Africa and was used in WWII. Also, the history plays a big part to the people.

To begin with, Swahili's history is very important. According to glcom.com, ''The word "Swahili" was used by early Arab visitors to the coast and it means "the coast". This piece of evidence is trying to say people use to trade by the coast and named the language after that. Also, according to glcom.com, '' It is well known that any language that must grow and expand its territories ought to absorb some vocabulary from other languages in its way.'' this evidence shows that all languages need to copy each other a little bit and will grow more. …show more content…

According to howwemadeitinafrica.com,'' Swahili is spoken by over 100m people in Africa.'' This piece of evidence shows that Swahili is a widely used language in Africa. This evidence is trying to say that because more people speaking the Swahili language it will spread and will eventually be used by many more
