Is college even worth it? Well let us start off here, no matter what people will do in their lives it is almost guaranteed that a college education is required to do it. Consider being a doctor, teacher, or police officer. These all require somewhat of a college education. Having fantastic worth ethics and being well trained in high school are going to push you more towards going to college. If people lack these qualities in high school then they will more than likely be making insufficient pay at a job that is not worth the time. Going to college provides better knowledge and with this knowledge you will be eligible to get a job that pays more.
To start off with, graduates of college have more knowledge and more suitable work ethics than mediocre high school students. “First of all, college graduates on average are smarter and have better work habits than high school graduates” (Vedder 78). This means that the students who try hard in high school and get the job done, are the ones that go to college and excel in all of their courses. The students that lay low and do not care about high school are the ones who can't get into college because of their grades. Rotherham states, “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2010 the median weekly earnings for someone with college but no degree were $712, compared to $1038 for college graduate” (79). This means that college graduates are making three hundred twenty six dollars more than college dropouts. This might not look like a big difference in salary, but it is when you have the expenses of a house, car, and other needs. This is good for the graduates because they are making the money they need to pay bills. On the other hand, college dropouts make less money and cannot pay their bills.
