Golden Retriever-Personal Narrative

My heart raced in anticipation as our car grew closer to the house. I had never thought of myself as an anxious person, but in that moment I was overcome with the feeling that something would go wrong. We were minutes away from getting a brand new golden retriever, and I was filled with nerves and excitement. I rolled down my window and breathed in the crisp April breeze. Ironically, there was a hint of cheese smell in the distance. Being that I was in Wisconsin, what else would you expect? In July of 2016, my family and I noticed that something was wrong with our dog. We realized that Zeke was reaching the end. He was almost 15 years old and that is a really high age for a golden retriever. On July 31, 2016 my parents and my brother brought Zeke to the vet to put him down. My family asked if I wanted to go with, but I couldn’t because it was too emotional. This dog had been apart of my life since before I was even alive. They all left me alone for a minute to say goodbye to my forever friend. As they walked out of the house I realized that this was the last time I would ever see my best friend. The day had arrived. It was a Friday and I remember being grateful because I got to skip school. We took the day and drove up to a small town named Stone Lake in Wisconsin. The scenery in that town was absolutely beautiful. The house where our future companion was was just a few blocks away. I was immensely overjoyed. We pulled up to the house and knocked on the door. A woman answered and she brought us to a garage. My heart was beating so fast I could feel it in my chest. She unlocked the door and walked in. When I entered that room tears filled my eyes as I gazed upon the most adorable puppies I had ever seen in my life. I was overwhelmed by the sight of all these animals.
