The Union wanted to abolish slavery, where as the Confederacy felt threatened by the idea of abolishing slavery. The event that started the war happened at Fort Sumter when the Confederacy army opened fire towards the Union. Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell changed the way people think about the Civil War because it shows how the war affected the women, a personal way of why the South was fighting, and how the war affected this novel. Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell is a novel that tells the story of a woman named Scarlett O’Hara and how the Civil War affected her life. Margaret Mitchell was born in 1900 in Atlanta Georgia. She started writing the book in 1926 after she broke her ankle and was not able to go anywhere. The book was published ten years later and has sold over thirty-million copies since then. Mitchell’s life ended thirteen years after the book was first published when she was hit by a car in 1949 and died five days later.
