Harper Lee The name of the person I picked is Nelle Harper Lee. Harper is from Monroeville Alabama. She was born in April 28, 1926. Sadly, Harper died February 19, 2016. She died of natural causes. Anyhow, Harper was a Novelist and she was best known for her book “To Kill a Mocking Bird” in 1960. The reason I had picked her is because I actually have read her book and I thought that this would be a good time to get to know a little bit about her. Harper was the youngest of four children and she grew up as a tomboy in a small town where she lived. Her father was a lawyer, a member of the Alabama state legislature and also owned part of the local newspaper. For most of Harper’s life, her mother suffered from mental illness which made it rare for her to leave the house often. It is believed that she may have suffered from a bipolar disorder. Anyhow, when Harper was in high school, she had found interest in English literature. Once she had graduated in 1944, she went to the all-female Huntingdon College in Montgomery. The reasoning is because at the time frame that she lived in, racism was very crucial and occurred a lot often that it does now. It was based on racism and stereotyping. This novel was very touching and because I know it touched me, I assume that it touched other readers who had read the novel. So in my opinion, this was one of the best novels she had written and it was very important, especially at that point of time. There is also a novel called “Go Set a Watchman”. The novel was also about racism and everything that was going around in her time. I don’t really know, or can find any other novels besides these that are important.
