When you think of dying, the question of heaven or hell gets thrown around. A simple breakdown can be described by: being good will land you in heaven and being bad will send you to hell. Kids are raised by this knowledge and passed down from generation to generation, but what happens when the same kids are without adults and abandoned by their once normal necessities and have to fight to stay alive? In William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies, you can see good versus evil as a prominent theme throughout the entire novel. The story starts with meeting Piggy and Ralph. These boys instantly find a way to gather all of the people together using a tool they find. “What's grown-ups going to say”(92) Piggy saying this reflects how different he is from the rest of most of the boys. He is one of the most intelligent and responsible boys. The quote from Piggy shows that what they are doing would not be acceptable to adults. This is evidence enough that the boys are going towards bad ideas and irresponsible choices, which relates to the theme that all of the boys become savages and drift far apart from the way that they were raised and that they act in a normal society. That supports the argument that the boys are turning evil and prioritizing the wrong objectives and ideas. Finally, when people get carried away, they seem to forget everything they stand by. For example, a. Ralph is a very responsible kid compared to the rest, he wouldn't do anything bad at the start of the book, but in the end, he ends up committing one of the worst injustices in the whole book unknowingly. “That was murder”(156).
