One specific scene that piqued my interest was a heartfelt moment between Grace and a newer teen Jade. Grace is comforting Jade after she has a meltdown when Jade offers to show her a children's story she wrote. It tells the life of Nina, an octopus who systematically gives up all of her tentacles to a shark who convinces her that’s what friends do. It is also an allegory for the relationship between a victim and her abuser. Grace saw through the cryptic message to reveal the beast behind the mask — Jade was being abused. I remember feeling awestruck at the closing of the scene. My lungs felt heavy, and my face had a trace of a wondrous smile. However, it wasn’t until the conclusion of the film that I knew why I felt that way. As the credits rolled, and after witnessing such a raw and emotional intercommunication, I felt small. I felt there were so many big things going on in the world that I didn’t have time to worry about the small ones.
