It always interested me to think of products in terms of customer / consumer needs. How products ought to re-invent themselves in context with the changing consumer needs? I have always loved to read about reviews of automobiles and gadgets in the relevant sector magazines. I am a strong advocator of the perspective that one should supplement conventional instructional learning in classrooms with gaining knowledge through practice and fieldwork. As an active member of the Science Club, I helped organize symposiums and participated in a number of inter school science competitions throughout my time in school, which honed my knowledge and catapulted my passion for my career by illustrating the immense scope of science to facilitate everyday life. Also International exposure through the medium of MUN’s revealed, to me, the power in diversity. I represented my school at the Harvard MUN in China, and became aware of the level of competition and learning that happens at global platforms. I worked in the Assembly frame department. The plant produced 500+ cars a day. I secured knowledge about the car manufacturing operations. I worked on the production line for several days where I was involved with cross-functional people and gained useful insights around daily management at the shop floor. During the second year I interned in the product development department of Fiat New Holland - India. Working with different design teams provided me with first hand experience of how a design is built from ground up. I also got insights into real life design related issues. My design fundamentals improved by the end of the internship. From these experiences, I gained an technical understanding of best product design practices, material usages and manufacturing practices, precise design software tools, software languages, besides the softer skills of leadership, analytical and marketing solutions to a broad product development perspective, and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams. This global and multi cultural experience also helped me understand and well comprehend the skill sets required to bring customer orientation for product development along with the team working for a successful product
