David McCullough, in his Wellesley High School Commencement Address, utilizes imagery to convey to his audience that each individual possesses the same common potential. While addressing the graduating class of 2012, McCullough makes a point to emphasize how unexceptional the students are. By bringing to light the fact that the students are all wearing the same “ceremonial costume…shapeless, uniform, one-size-fits-all” (McCullough 1), he illustrates the conformity of the crowd. By depicting the cap and gown, McCullough demonstrates that each student at the ceremony are at the same level.
In her “Commencement Speech at Mount Holyoke College”, Anna Quindlen employs personal anecdotes and her academic background to effectively build her credibility. Quindlen explains how her strive for perfection in her younger years only served to add needless parasitic pressure. She claims that “being perfect day after day, year after year, became like always carrying a backpack filled with bricks on my back” (Quindlen 1). Drawing from her personal experiences, Quindlen challenges her audience to “give up the backpack”. By building a strong connection through shared hardship, Quindlen appears as an authority on defying conformity to discover one’s own individuality.
World War I was an exponentially increasing war in tragedy and death. It established the positions of each imperial power and how they stand amongst others in battle. The events leading up to the war cannot compare to those that occurred during and even after this horrific war. However, it was truly the conditions of WW1 that fueled the entrance of the United States into WW1. The United States was justified entering World War I on the side of the Allies in 1917 due to three fundamental conditions: the type of government, the alliance system, and militarism.
These made the Rethinkers not just want to help their school with the food issue but to help their community. They first replaced the plastic silverware. They talked to there school nutritionist. They talked about
Our dad would have been 76 today. I miss him as much today as I did the day he left his earthly body behind to transcend into the heaven. The older I get the more I realize just how lucky we were to call him Pops! I wouldn't be the man I am today without his guidance.
If I were to change one thing in my community, I would change the school lunches, because they taste horrendous, and they need to be healthier. First, the lunches should not be processed foods because those use a lot of chemicals that are harmful to the body. Some examples of processed foods are foods that come pre made or from a box or a can. Processed foods usually contain more con syrup and sugars, usually addicting and can make you gain weight,contains many artificial ingredients, high in carbohydrates, and uses lots of oils that are usually processed as well.
Throughout reading “Commencement Speech, Kenyon College”, I found this short story very inspiring to read as I found myself doing more research for this essay because I was so interested in it. Wallace was very reluctant to give this speech because he wasn’t sure he was ready to talk in front of 400 graduates and what if what he had to say was ordinary not something that would stick with all these students the rest of their lives. Reading this speech through the first time the tone particularly stuck out to me, a direct yet casualness in the way he made his argument really made this go from ordinary to extraordinary. Starting off with water and ending with water tied the essay into one big loop with many messages within it but a central message central the main idea water. Water comes within many forms like ice, evaporation, solid liquid, colored or even clear and so many more.
I am honored to be nominated for Crestwood’s National Honor Society for the 2017-2018 school year. I feel as if I use these four characteristics every day. Scholarship is something that I take for granted. When I think of school, I think it’s easy and all it takes is doing your homework to get good grades.
The 2016 spring commencement speech given by Quint Studer, he was a student who struggled in high school due to having both a speech impediment and being hard of hearing. But, he was able to make it through high school and college thanks to the people he encountered in his life that helped him. The “pebble in the pond” theory as explained by Quint Studer is the ideology that you indeed do have an impact on many of the people you come in contact with during life. For example, he mentioned a teacher he had in the 6th grade. This teacher knew that Studer had a problems preventing learning so he moved his desk next to Studer, allowing him to be able to give him the extra helping hand, without being obvious.

Some of the most popular chemicals are: Sodium Benzoate, Butylated hydroxide, and Butlate hydroxytoluene, canthaxanthin, olestra, high fructose corn syrup, mono sodium Glut amate, partially hydrogenated oils, Potassium bromate, and sodium nitrate. Sodium Benzoate is a chemical combined with sodium hydroxide and benzoin acid. Butylated hydroxanisole keeps the oils in the foods from oxidizing.
Some say change is essential for growth while others proclaim it as a necessity of life. Throughout the nation, certain school districts have pondered upon promoting a new variety of cafeteria foods focusing on the outlines of health and nutrition, a debate strongly valued by the likeness of public officials. As health defections soar into a national concern, students and school systems evolve into actions of reform, regulating dietary consumption and improving standards of civil welfare. Overall, varying school lunch menus throughout the region is a necessary assessment to student bodies and communities because it stimulates learning performance and interaction, creates a variety for all, and even promotes change throughout the community, naming this a policy for the win. Performance is dominated through wisdom and
Marching band; copious amounts of people scoff at the sound of those words. I often hear students commenting on how easy marching band is, how we don’t train like the football players do. At Anderson High School, that’s not the case, the marching band trains for just as long. As a band of over 125 individuals, it takes determination, pride, and confidence to achieve the goals we have set forth to accomplish. As a leader of the saxophone section, I know what it’s like to face failure, to overcome and turn it into success and to march on with confidence.
Over 30.3 million kids in the U.S. alone eat free or reduced price school lunches, these lunches were meant to keep kids full and happy through the day but that might not be the case anymore. Millions of kids go to school every day and a big part of the day is when the students are able to eat lunch and socialize, but a problem not many people think about at school plagues the lunch room. Schools offer many different assortments of foods, including the high processed and fatty foods and snacks that not only can cause health problems, but can cause kids to feel sluggish throughout the day. School lunches need to include more organic and locally grown options instead of the highly processed foods currently served, because the it does not provide
In some schools some principals superintendents have made a decision to opt out of the Healthy choice foods and make there own semi-healthy foods that kids like. To reduce waste and bring back students who have opted to pack a lunch or go off campus for fast food, his districts cafeterias have installed stir-fry stations with abundant vegetables so students can have meals made to order. and he’s added spice bars so kids can even the bland. In schools some principals and administrators are starting to take action.
Lone Star High School is a location where students can feel secure and have many opportunities to showcase their skills and leadership qualities. Our campus is built upon five figurative pillars; Integrity, Strength, Stewardship, Loyalty and Perseverance. These pillars are what make us the admirable school that we are today. I believe everyone of our students must have these five qualities in order to ensure success now and later on in the future. As a student I believe that for one to have integrity they must show signs of righteous ethical morals.
