A major factor in the Great Chicago Fire was the wood. Almost the entire city was built of wood, and wood is very flammable. There were many factors that contributed to the fire. These factors were Mrs. O’Leary’s cow, a lantern that was lit, wood, and there was very little rain. Stories say that Mrs. O’ Leary was milking her cow on the night of October 8th, when she was done milking her cow she left the barn and they say her cow knocked over a lantern that had been lit.
