The novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald was set in the 1920s during the aftermath of world war one. It is a reflection on the era’s prosperity, social change, and the concept of the American Dream. The novel portrays the negative side of the American Dream, as the characters in the novel are corrupted by their wealth and success. The impact of the American Dream on the characters within the novel are heavily impacted throughout the novel. In the 1920s after world war one ended, people of America believed that if they worked hard enough they would achieve a prosperous and successful life regardless of social status and family history. This was the American Dream. The American Dream has always been a big part of American history although, after the first world war it was huge as they had just fought the first international war. Nick Carraway, a friend of Gatsby, discovers the truth and is left with sadness and regret for his friend's early death. Gatsby is presented as the embodiment of the American Dream, the idea that anyone can live a successful and prosperous life, regardless of their social status or family history. His death serves as a reminder that the pursuit of the American Dream does not always guarantee success, as Gatsby ultimately fails to achieve his dream of reuniting with Daisy. Jay Gatsby’s death is connected to his crime activity as George Wilson believed it was him who shot Myrtle. This is because of the world’s perception of Jay Gatsby as a criminal as he is involved in organized crimes. This eventually leads to George Wilson believing Jay Gatsby murdered Myrtle. Gatsby's car was the one that struck and killed Myrtle, though he was not driving. It was Daisy
