“The Great War” was the craziest, bloodiest and massive war that changed the world. During the time period of 1914 to 1918 this is when WWI took place. There were many causes that occurred to start “The Great War”. Countries throughout Europe made mutual defense agreements that would pull them into the war. Imperialism increases a countries power and wealth by bringing additional territories under their own control. Africa and parts of Asia were points of contention among the European countries. 1914 Germany had the greatest increased military buildup. American companies could sell war supplies to fighting countries. The British navy tried to prevent Americans from trading with Germany. Hundreds of ships from America crossed the Atlantic Ocean and carried war supplies to France and also Great Britain. Germany accused the United States of not remaining neutral. Germany set up a war zone around the island of Great Britain. President Wilson felt that the war zones were illegal. He believed that all countries should be free to sail the oceans. Central powers appeared to be defeating the allied nations. Many Americans were concerned about Great Britain. The United States stayed neutral at the beginning of WW1 because of the Germany sub acts of what President Woodrow Wilson declared a “privacy” which was too much for the public to take. The United States had no choice but to get into the war. So the U.S. entered the Great War in 1917 to 1919. Early January, of 1918 he spoke of a plan for a lasting permanent peace. The plan was known as Wilsons fourteen points. Any nations would be free to sail in any seas and ocean of around the globe. An organization that was called the League of Nations would be created to settle disputes between countries in a peaceful way. A conference that was held in the palace of Versailles near Paris, France in January of 1919. The purpose of the conference was to discuss and write a peace treaty that brought all together to settle the peace. That would be acceptable to nations that fought in the war. No other president before Wilson had left the United States while in office. He wanted to make sure his League of Nations became apart of the treaty.
