Greek Medical Care and Culture
As anticipated, all cultures around the world are different for many different reasons, one of them being medical care. Greek culture differs from American Culture in more ways than just one, the medical field being a main focus.
To open, the Greek culture believes that the “Holy Statement” stems from the Father only, not the Son, whereas in American culture, the “Holy Statement” stems from the Father and the Son, this being a primary piece of information in their belief system. These services provide basic healthcare for anyone, even in remote areas. Although theses services are very open ended, there is overconcentration of these hospitals and clinics in the main cities such as Athens. Private organizations and facilities are open to those who can afford them, as not the whole Greek population is not wealthy, as imaginable. Greek wishes are alike to the American culture in terms of comfortability with the available nursing staff; they like to feel comfortable and trustworthy of their nurses and doctors. For example, privacy is also very valued in tradition; male patients are very anel about having male nurses, especially when the time comes to change into hospital gowns or anything that could potentially involve being exposed for a short period of time. Continuing with privacy, the Greeks are also very sensitive when it comes to the death of a loved one, so they typically try to avoid telling the patient what the diagnosis or prognosis is, believing that if the patient knows what his/her cause of death is, it will cause him/her to be further burdened. Therefore, the Greek families preferred to be told or informed of the diagnosis first, to figure out if they should collectively inform the patient.
