There are dance studios all over the place, schools have performing arts in which people can sing, and paintings and other arts and crafts are displayed on walls. The cultural values of Athens have influenced the U.S greatly and we can see them in our everyday
Many of the ancient lands we learn about in school are situated in river valleys teeming with silt that’s just waiting for stuff to be grown in it. This doesn’t make things easy for them, exactly, but, at the very least, that part of their life is taken care of. They can get both water and food from these river valleys they call home, as well as wealth from trading their crops. This was the case for both Mesopotamia and Egypt. Ancient Greece, however, as stated in Document 1, did not have these advantages.
The Getty Villa was extremely interesting learning more about Ancient Greece and Rome. One thing that I learned was about the Etruscans and that were around from 900 to 50 B.C. in the Italian Peninsula. From 474 to 454 B.C. this is when the Etruscans were defeated by people from Sicily and the Etruscans started to go down politically. Contrastingly, at this time art started to be a big cultural idea among Etruscans as they started to create art from metal such as sculptures. The Etruscans were known to take things like gold or copper and turn it into jewelry.
You sit on the couch of your living room when you decide that you want to watch some television. You flip through all of the channels and cannot seem to find anything that sparks an interest. When, suddenly you see going across the screen in bold print “Local Fraternity/Sorority in trouble”. Trouble is what most of America sees Greek Life as. To say that they have not earned the reputation of being troublesome is an understatement.
Response Paper 1 Justin Chau For my research paper, I am going to two about two types of art throughout certain time periods in history. What I am going to compare and differentiate are types of art within the Prehistoric time period, and the Roman time period. Within time periods in general, there are artworks that are relevant throughout their existing time period, and picked up later in future generations, where people can learn about their past cultures and various types of art. For the first time period, the Prehistoric period, it includes the Paleolithic culture and its art. It is divided into three parts.
Body Paragraph #1: The people of GADINS have one major god, but honor the minor gods just as much. The gods are Sensō( the god of war, weapons, and strength), Mir(the god of peace family, and friendship), and νερό( the god of water, weather, plants, harvesting, and food). The major god is called άτλας. Άτλας is good at everything, but he needs help from the minor gods, as for he is busy and can not do everything alone. The people must pray 3 times a day for the 3 sacrifices άτλας made.
Athens and Sparta, located between the Aegean and the Ionian Sea, allied with each other in the Greco-Persian war. Due to the advanced and powerful navy of Athens incorporation with the well-built army of Sparta, they gained victory over the Persian Empire. After the victory, Athens gained wealth and dominance over the other Greek societies causing tensions between Sparta. They both share similarities towards their cultural background but had different views in creating an ideal society in addition to their state’s place in the world. Moreover, they differ from the concepts of a well trained or educated society and a well built military, but share similarities in their government format.
I think Homer and Hiroshi Inagaki both well display each Greek and Japanese's cultural and mortal value through the function of honor, shame, and fate. There are definitely some similarities between two cultural literacies, however, one major factor that separates non-Western society from Western ones is the idea between individualism and collectivism. In the Greek culture, the concept of honor, shame, and fate is all based upon the fundamental idea of individualism. The warriors are struggled in life to achieve individual honor and glory, their shame was based on one's personal emotions or values, and lastly, their fate is also one's individual responsibility rather than a communal duty. Though in the Japanese culture, these are all based
The Ancient Greeks have influenced American culture through their language, their architecture, and in the theater. Many words in the English language were derived from those of the Ancient Greeks. You can find many examples of Greek architecture in America today, especially in our nations capital. The Ancient Greeks were the first people to start theater and that is still very popular today through stage theater, and through movies. To begin, countless words and phrases found in the English language were obtained from the Ancient Greeks.
Now people have restaurants to sit down and eat and wait for other people to cook the food for them. Therefor Ancient Greece is a lot different compared to
Three percent of Planned Parenthood’s patient care is dedicated to abortions. However when most people think of Planned Parenthood abortion is the first thing to come to mind. People fail to realize that 35 percent of Planned Parenthoods patient care is dedicated to contraception, and 35 percent is dedicated to treatment of sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatments. Not to mention 16 percent of their care is put towards to cancer screening and treatment. People have come to the conclusion that Planned Parenthood needs to be defunded because they provide abortions, and also because of their involvement in selling fetuses to stem cell research.
The Greeks took a huge step into entertainment. This step is still felt today. The whole reason we have olympics is because of the Greeks. There is way more to this story. The Greek theatre plays a huge role in our modern theatre.
There are many greek influences on our culture today. However, these impacts are not very widely known in our modern society. The Greek culture affects our everyday way of life.
