Greek restaurants started as food stands on the streets of cities, but after city council's banned food sold on streets, Greeks made the switch to permanent shops. Restaurants were the first steady income for Greeks, making them very popular. The Greeks also made a contribution by opening over 130 Greek Orthodox Churches.
