Dionysus/ Bacchus Dionysus is the God of the grape harvest, winemaking, pleasure, vegetation, and festivity (Atsma). Dionysus is the son of Zeus and Semele (Atsma). Dionysus was a male, with a beard and a robe usually holding a staff with a pine-cone on the top( Atsma). His home is the Mount Olympus, although he was born on Mt. Nysa (Atsma). It is said that he was worshiped between 1500-100 BC. Dionysus was viewed as kind and widely worshiped. He is known for his odd birth and for his obsession of wine (Atsma). He is a mortal god which means he will never die. Dionysus is a god that is very powerful but he doesn’t always act his best.

Bacchus is the god of Wine (Geller). Bacchus spent his childhood training around great wine lovers (Geller). After training, he traveled the world teaching people how to grow and turn things into wine (Geller). He was known for throwing huge parties where participants would drink large amounts of wine to worship gods. Once Dionysus turned himself into a boy and got drunk (Bulfinch). While drunk some pirates came and asked him where his home was and were going to take him home (Bulfinch). He lied where his home was and told them Naxos so the pirates would take him there (Bulfinch). The pirates were on there way all but one decided it was a good idea to sell the boy into slavery (Greek Mythological Story of Dionysus and Ariadne). As soon as the pirates turned the ship the winds stopped and the boat filled with grapevines (Greek Mythological Story of Dionysus and Ariadne). The oars turned into snakes and all the grapevines suddenly became Dionysus head (Greek Mythological Story of Dionysus and Ariadne). One night while Ariadne was asleep, Theseus awoke and stole Ariadne's ship (Greek Mythological Story of Dionysus and Ariadne). Ariadne was stranded on this island and was weeping continuously because she thought that her lover had left her (Greek Mythological Story of Dionysus and Ariadne). These divine children are; Hymenaios, Lakkhos, Kharites, Methe, Pasithea, Priapos, Sabazios, Telete, and Thysa (Greek Mythological Story of Dionysus and Ariadne). The mortal offspring are Deianeira, Eurymedon, Keramos, Maron, Narkaios, Opinopion, Peparethos, Phanos, Philiasos or Philas, Staphylos, and Thoas
