“Greek Mythology is the body of all the legends, stories and myths created by the ancient Greeks, and it used to be the basis of their spiritual and religious believes” (greekmyths-greekmythology.com). As one of the oldest religions, Greek mythology not only sets a basis for other religions, but it encourages people to inquire about their daily lives. Ancient Greek civilians believed that all things were controlled or monitored by a god or goddess. Hemera, although a minor goddess, is very important in the maintaining of Greek mythology.

Hesiod, a poet known during 750-650 BC (around the same time as Homer), wrote about twenty one primordial deities including Hemera, her father Erebus, her mother Nyx, and her children born from her brother Aether. Hemera although isn’t mentioned much in ancient literature because without her, the four ‘main’ gods, as well as the titans wouldn’t have been born.

“The primordial goddess Hemera was worshipped as the goddess of the day and was the consort of her brother Aether. Aether and Hemera eventually supplanted their parents to become the most powerful of the primordial gods.”(talesbeyondbelief.com). One of her most known children are Uranus and Gaia. Uranus (god of the sky) and Gaia (mother Earth) were parents of the infamous Titans, Furies, Cyclopes and many of the other monster species. The exact genealogy of the premedial timeline has been muddled by history. For example, in Hyginus Preface it states that Ouranos, Thalassa and Gaia were their only children. However, in De Natura Deorum (Cicero) it clearly states that Ouranos, Thalassa, Gaia and Uranus are her
