Sparta was once one of the most important Greek city-states throughout Greece, famous for their military lifestyle. When you think of a Spartan warrior, you vision a man with huge muscles, red cloaks, long hair, and sharp swords. Spartan warriors were the best and feared fighters in Greece, they spend their whole lives learning new fighting techniques and serving their home, Sparta. At around six or seven years old, young boys would be taken from their homes to be trained as Spartan warriors.
Their shield played a big part also because it was made out of brass and reinforced with 3 inches of wood. The main idea of the phalanx formation was to be an impenetrable wall as a unit and it played a huge part in the Battle of Thermopylae, but in the end the Spartan Army lost because they were simply outnumbered by the Persian which is what the movie 300 with Gerard Butler is based on. During the training process they would have them constantly making the phalanx and having other soldiers trying to break
The Battle of Antietam was located in Sharpsburg, Maryland which was said to be one of the bloodiest days in American History due to the high number of casualties on both sides. People have also given the name of this historical battle ”Artillery Hell”. Due to the high number of deaths, the importance of rank structure during this battle was extremely important. Key personnel were directly in the mist of battle because of how fast the battle field was unfolding. The equipment used in this battle especially the artillery pieces are one of the main reasons this day was so bloody.

Greece DBQ Theater, government, and religion were all essential parts of ancient Greek culture. A unique trait which all of these aspects of ancient Greek society shared was progression and development. Theater progressed from simply relaying stories to tackling controversial topics which sparked discussion. Government showed growth and progression in both Sparta and Athens. Sparta developed a militaristic society which eliminated socioeconomic inequality and Athens’s monarchy evolved into a free democracy where people’s voices were heard.
The Greek Warriors had long spears called doru. They had a shield that they carried in their left hand. They held their shields up so they couldn’t get hit with incoming arrows. They also used specific military tactics to organize their military. They had to wear helmets so they didn’t get hurt.
DOK Level 2 – Question: Summarize how Spartans laid the groundwork for military principles used in the modern world. One of the ways the Spartans laid the groundwork for military values used in the modern world is when the 300 Spartans stood up against the Persians at the Battle of Thermopylae, which symbolized selflessness, which is used in the military today to show bravery, honor and responsibility. The second way that Spartans
The education of Sparta varied in strengths and in weaknesses. The Sparta’s were first located in southern Greece called the Peloponnese. In this colony, the Sparta’s only vision was bloodthirsty war and violence. At the age of seven, a young boy is removed from his family and is expected, from his 8th to his 21st year, become educated to a brutal military-like discipline. Therefore, regarding the education in Sparta, the weaknesses outweighed the strength because the Spartan’s didn’t value family morals, the basics of reading and writing were taught, and the upbringing of Spartan boys was cruel and painful.
In ancient Greece religion was an important facet of everyday life as well as an essential aspect of warfare and battle. Soldiers in ancient Greece frequently sought support from the deities to ensure a safe and conclusive victory through ritual sacrifice. Sometimes warriors even had to sacrifice multiple times to ensure support, even if this meant postponing battle. Religion did not only dictate the time in which one could begin a battle, but times in which battles could not be fought at all, that is during festivals and religious games. Religion also dictated spaces in which battles could not be fought, in holy sites such as temples, and spaces in which battles should be fought, something that could be decided through the interpretation of religious prophecies.
The Roman armies used to be comprised of volunteers but after being defeated, they were determined to make their army better. They did this through vigorous trainings. Roman soldiers called legionaries, were forced to march for long distances carrying heavy loads. Every year, senior military officers, called Tribunes, would select the strongest men to be part of the army. In the end, the Romans became professional in fighting and had one of the most disciplined armies.

Their findings in multiple areas of technology established an age of science where numerous discoveries contributed to modern day discoveries and inventions. Examples of these would include the alarm clock which was invented by Ctesibius who was a Greek engineer, physicist and mathematician (Oleson 2009, p.753). The device worked by dropping peddles onto a gong at a set time.
