In the 70s 80s and 90s, the growing "green movement" responded to the perception that earth’s resources were being plundered, rather than respectfully utilized, and that the very place we live in was being spoiled in the process. When oil prices started to increase it spurred research to improve energy efficiency and find more possible renewable energy sources such as solar hot water and more. This along with environmental movements of the sixties and seventies led to experimentation with green building (History Calendar, 2014).
