Lisa wrote this novel with the purpose to do what she loved, she wrote about the grief and guilt that a person can take on after a loss of a loved one as well as what it is like to move on and get back into life and being happy again. This novel that Lisa wrote is a mixture of tragedy, romance, and drama with sides of adventure and mystery.
The main character in Lisa’s book is Ava a teenage girl who has lost her boyfriend and has taken on the guilt of his death being her fault. A few supporting characters are Ava’s ghost boyfriend Jackson and her three best friends Cali, Jessa, and Zoe along with her mother. These characters help Ava get back on her feet and help her realise that there is still more to life and all that they want for Ava is for her to be happy.
A couple sentences from the novel that give a powerful description are ”All I can think about is how my boyfriend will soon be underground. He’ll be lying there alone in the dirt.” These couple of sentences are descriptive because it describes where Jackson's body will be shortly when they lower his casket into the dirt and bury him. After Jackson's funeral Ava remains to feel guilty and that the death of jackson was her fault and begins to feel, see, smell and touch Jackson in her dreams and when she was alone in her house sometimes Jackson would even talk to her by whispering in her head. Ava stays home while life goes on and her friends continue having fun and living their summer the best way they can before school starts. Ava's friends keep checking up on her and inviting her to parties but she remains to be depressed and lonely until the Fourth of July when Ava runs into a real live guy that reminds her how good life is and Ava figures out why Jackson is still here and what he wants from
