Grizzly Man Timothy Treadwell may have been, in many of our eyes, weird and offbeat. Yet that is the most purposeful part of this film. Grizzly Man captures the full persona of a human being who is wildly different than most of us-his ways of life, his thoughts, and his devotion to what he believes in. Herzog takes us into the realm of Treadwell, a nature man if there ever was such an idea. To me, there is this subconscious idea that Grizzly Man is trying to show us that Timothy was in fact, being human. And by being human we are following our instincts. The movie shows Treadwell in his natural habitat, embracing his passion, being involved with what he truly cared for. Yet no matter the time, finding who we truly are is all that has meaning. Treadwell was incredibly similar to your typical teenager. He lived in a common house with a normal family, he went to a normal school, and played sports. No one would have ever seen Treadwell becoming a man who lived with bears. Yet the one aspect of his childhood that hinted at it was his admiration for his stuffed bear. His parents say that he would not let it go. I think that this is the most significant symbol of Treadwell’s human nature that there is. As I mentioned, we do not know when we will find our own nature, yet it is a part of who we are since the very beginning. To most of us, our furry friends will become garbage after childhood, yet for Treadwell, he had a connection to the bear that was eternal. This bear led Treadwell to leave his typical life and follow his inner callings. I believe that we all have our own teddy bear. Be it as it may, not all of us find what Treadwell did- meaning. I hate to use meaning in such a broad sense, but in this circumstance I feel it is indispensable. Going back to what Herzog said: finding our own nature is what gives us meaning. Even the word
