As a groundhog, I, Punxsutawney Phil, look forward to February 2nd. It is my day of the year to show off, and the only day I get out of the whole 365 days. My holiday is celebrated in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. It all began on February 2, 1887. That was the first day I started my job. If I , the groundhog, come out of my hole underground and see my shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. Otherwise, it means an early spring. Groundhog’s Day has always been a traditional holiday recurring since 1887. I adore it because I get to be the one everyone pays attention to. Tomorrow is my whopping day. I develop more nervousness every year. Even though I love getting to do this job, it is very nerve racking. My furry self and I have trillions of people relying on me, and I get so anxious that I will mess up. I personally always try to do my best for what everyone wants, but it doesn’t always work. People record me with video cameras, or they take my picture through the process. I, Punxsutawney Phil, am on the news every year. My daily meal is vegetation and some insects. I usually eat ⅓ of my body weight, but I have a million dozen butterflies in my stomach that I can’t even eat one vegetable. My belly is grumbling, but I just can’t make myself eat. I have always loved the winter and hibernation. I am planning on it being sunny outside, so I will see my shadow. Then, there will be six more weeks of winter. I love to make a burrow, get food that will last me a while, and stay underground for a while. Groundhogs are among the few animals that are true clad under dirt.
