How Group Members Deepen Their Awareness of their relationships with Self-Disclosure and Feedback In the video, Group Work: Leading in the Here and Now: Part III: Conflict and Summation, Dr. Peg Carroll is leading the group which is experiencing conflict. Lucy explained that she is hurt by the fact that Jean labeled her resistance that later turned to anger to as a game to the group (Association for Specialist, n.d). She is trying to gain an understanding as to why Jean is feeling this way toward the group. Ever since Jean has expressed these feelings to the group Lucy feels that everyone is not on board with the progress they have made thus far. Lucy is experiencing feeling what is called the here and now. Lucy has acquired feelings toward her fellow members of her group (Yalom & Leszcz, 2005). These type of feelings have become a serious communication within the group. Research states that “It facilitates feedback, catharsis, meaningful self-disclosure, and acquisition of socializing techniques” (Yalom & Leszcz, 2005, p.141). When conflict occurs, it is beneficial for group members resolve the conflict in a respectful manner. During the video, there seem to be a number of conflicts that continue to evolve. Dr. Carroll’s method for resolving the conflicts was to step in by asking Lucy what she wanted to say to Jean? Or what are you saying about yourself? (Association for Specialist, n.d). Dr. Carroll displayed her ability to successfully resolve conflict by asking each group member to maintain communication despite how uncomfortable they may feel from what each member has said. Maintaining a cohesive group is to get each member to locate deep within themselves by being able to comprehend the views of others (Yalom & Leszcz,
