Roar of the Crowd On April 27, 2015,There was a protest about the recent death of Freddie Grey who died while in police custody and following other similar incidents all over the country. There was rioting and looting and burning of business buildings in the communities but the police were told to not to use lethal force. However they were outgunned and outnumbered by Baltimore rioters. Only when a curfew was established and National Guard was brought in, was the riot quelled.

Herd behavior is known as someone doing what other people around are doing or what they think is right. Mob mentality was used in the novel. In the article, “The Rise of the New Groupthink,” Susan Cain argues that new groupthink conveys a workplace with group thinking, acquiring underdone work and no individualism. Cain addresses a tone of open-mindedness in this article with this topic of the new groupthink, while also emphasizing the negatives of the new groupthink. The article adheres to the classical argumentative structure in many paragraphs. For example, the author secures the audience’s attention by opening with a statement saying that individualism is dead.
Herd behavior modified one’s thoughts and discourages others’ self-confidence. Group think influences others to not use their brains but to channel their emotions through feelings and emotions. This action to pressure individuals to conform, influence members of a group, to rely on others to stay safe and cancel out their opportunities to channel their own thoughts. In the teleplay “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” written by Rod Serling, the article “When Good People Do Bad Things” written by Ann Trafton, and the article “Why Do People Follow The Crowd?” reported by ABC News, all provide instances where people lose touch with themselves and behave differently in a crowd.
In recent years, we have had a series of events that have sparked outrage across our world. This outrage sometimes leads to an issue I have in contemporary culture: mob mentality. “Herd mentality”, or more commonly known as “mob mentality” refers to how people lose their self-awareness and moral code when they are with a group of people. Mob mentality usually drives people to do things they wouldn’t normally do, such as jumping someone, Whether it be a large amount of people online harassing an artist or a movement that has been tainted by the aggressive nature of some, herd/mob mentality has become a more prevalent and pressing issue in the 21st century.
Martian Luther King Jr. had people follow him to help get rid of racism. Adolf Hitler used groupthink by speaking to the crowd that didn’t like the Jews and thought that they didn’t have a reason to be on earth. He made people believe that was the right thing to do. David Koresh used groupthink by telling people he was the “Spiritual Heir” and people believed him so they thought it was the right thing. The adults that followed him had made their children follow him to.
I think one reason is because people don’t want to be an outlier in the group of people (Smith). Another reason is because people think they won’t get the same consequences when they are with other people instead of being by themselves (Smith). There are many different behaviors and examples of mob mentality. One behavior of mob mentality could be a group of people running in one direction (Smith). An example of mob mentality is when you see a restaurant with a long line, so you go to the restaurant because you think they are serving good food.
It is a natural human instinct to want to be acknowledge by your peers, yet it is also important to be a critical thinker. Irving Janis in 1972 created the term groupthink. He believed groupthink occurs inside a group of similar people that want to keep from being different, resulting in incoherent decision-making. The 1957 film "12 Angry Men," uses groupthink, which influenced the verdict vote in the case of a teenager accused of murdering his father. The purpose of this essay is to examine groupthink and to represent Dr. Irving Janis’ symptoms of groupthink in the film.
Psychologist Irving Janis explained some alarmingly bad decisions made by governments and businesses coined the term "groupthink”, which he called "fiascoes.” He was particularly drawn to situations where group pressure seemed to result in a fundamental failure to think. Therefore, Janis further analyzed that it is a quick and easy way to refer to a mode of thinking people engage in when they are deeply involved in a cohesive in-group, when the members ' striving for unanimity override their motivation to realistically appraise alternative courses of action. According to Janis, groupthink is referred as the psychological drive for consensus at any cost that suppresses disagreement and prevents the appraisal of alternatives in cohesive decision-making groups.

Mob Mentality is a term that describes how people are influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union promoted prohibition strongly and wanted drinking banned for good. Prohibitions was the act of banning the use, manufacturing, and consumption of alcohol.
