The Marrow Thieves, by Cherie Dimaline, is a novel with a slew of conflicts embedded within its pages, and it is evident that there is a conflict that affects the main character on a dynamic and dramatic level. The main character, Frenchie, experiences lots of different conflicts internally and externally, but they all relate to his lack of confidence. Firstly, when a guy hits on Rose, Frenchie begins to dislike that she didn’t give him more attitude, causing him to believe that he may not be good enough for Rose, or that he is just a second option. This entire incident reflects back to the idea of missing his confidence in certain situations and, when confronted with conflict, he begins to believe he is the reason for its occurrence. His reactions to conflict and lack of confidence are represented through a passage where Frenchie states, “Before he cut me off to address Rose, who was still by my side. …show more content…

‘But I’m sure you are quite capable.’ ‘I am very capable,’ she responded before walking back to her own tenant. I was a little upset that she hadn't given him more attitude than that.” (Dimaline, Page 165). The situation with Derrek–the one who was hitting on Rose and who cut Frenchie off –demonstrates how Frenchie's mind responds to difficult situations in the sense that he believes that he should be a better person for Rose, This is caused by Derrek because he is clearly a threat, in the eyes of Frenchie, to the relationship that he has built with Rose. Thus, relating to him lacking the confidence in his abilities to be enough for his beloved Rose. Moreover, Frenchie has had internal struggles over the course of this tale, but the most evident instance is when he regretted a major decision.
