Performance Issues at Gulfport
Gulfport Transit is a Tampa based public transportation authority which was established in 1990. At presently it is facing issues in performance which are as below:-
• Lack of leadership and organizing skills. It has been observed that most of the managers lack leadership and organizing skills. Leadership skill is very important for the performance of any organization as it creates an environment where people take ownership to succeed. It should develop its middle and upper level managers in leadership and organizing skill. It should also provide job oriented training to its operators so as to improve the overall performance. There are lots of gaps in the knowledge levels and skills of employees in the whole organization. There was increased conflict among various departments of Gulfport Transit. Therefore the managers need to manage group dynamics effectively so as to develop cohesive and harmonious teams within the organization. Managers of different department can plan group activities or outings so as to develop harmonious working relationship among different groups (David Kantor, 2012).
Organization Development and Change:-Gulfport needs to change its performance appraisal system. It needs to change its organization structure as at presently performance appraisal is being done by HR department. It needs to lay down the criteria of performance management and should be done department wise rather than leaving whole responsibility on HR department.
Career Management:- Gulfport Transit should plan career development and planning activities for its employees . This would provide the direction to the employees leading to high performance (Bob Paladino, 2013). Interventions such as career planning workshops and counseling can be introduced.
