Kleck’s article analyzes how current attempts at gun-control policy would have produced arbitrary, if any, effects to prevent the increase in school shootings. He discusses the various methods used such as child access prevention laws and bans on assault weapons. I will use his research to support my proposal that arbitrary discussions on gun policy concerning school shootings are stimulated by violent details found on social media, creating a cycle of attempts to solve a ‘social’ problem more intricate than previously

Gun Control "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." As Thomas Jefferson stated, this right of citizens is a way of self defense. This has been a right of the people in America for centuries, why should this right be taken away now? Enforcing of this law could increase attacks, restrict good citizens, and take away a means of defense from the people.
Gun Control Policies The gun control or (firearms regulation) is a set of policies that regulate the modification, sale, manufacture, possession, transfer, or even the use of firearms by people. This policy was intended to limit the possession of a handgun to those who complete a background check and are cleared, and to those who have no mental illnesses. This would attempt to make sure that handguns do not end up in the hands of the wrong people, such as criminal, or those that have been convicted prior to these policies of gun abuse. With these policies in place it hopefully would cut down on gun violence.
Gun Control in the United States Gun control in the United States has become a highly contested topic recently due to the mass shootings that have occurred. The Federal Bureau of Investigation defines mass murder as a murder in which four or more people are killed in one incident (Morton). Over the past decade the topic of gun control has been prevalent in new legislation because mass shootings seem more frequent. Statistics reveal that although mass shootings have not become more frequent over the years, they have become deadlier with higher death tolls than ever before. The firearms and ammunition that civilians are able to obtain since the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban in 2004 have led to the increase in the death toll (Duwe).

However statistics and historic documents like the Second Amendment, show evidence against gun control advocates, proving that guns should not be banned in America due to gun violence.

Application of Conflict Theory to the Gun Control Debate Being a debate, the conflict theory is a very applicable theory that can be applied to guns/gun control laws and their roles in society. A debate is something that is associated with conflict, so by observing how deep and exactly in what directions this conflict extends, one might be able to understand this topic in a new light. In other words, by analyzing the very nature of this argument, this sociological perspective can be used to generate a deepened understanding of the debate on the extent of gun control laws. Gun Control Omar Mateen shook the world on the night of June 12, when he executed one of the worst mass shootings in the History of the United States; leaving 49 dead and 53 injured at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The tragic incident took place three and a half years after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting which is often seen as an important mark in the United State’s effort to reform gun control laws - seeing as how 20 elementary school children were among those fatally shot. According to Gun Violence Archive, there have been 998 mass shootings since then. And those statistics are just mass shootings.
Ever since the inception of this country 240 years ago, guns have been an integral part of the American identity; a sense of lawlessness, individualism, personal autonomy and freedom. They were the tools that liberated us, and gave us independence over a tyrannical, unrepresentative empire. However, in more recent years, these tools have been used more and more frequently in mass shootings, some of which are occurring at schools, targeting teachers and children. Since the infamous shooting at Columbine High School 19 years ago, we have had several shootings at schools, and we tend to get “thoughts and prayers”, a gesture with good intentions, but little actual progress made. This problem can be contributed to the increasing power of guns, and a lack of mental health coverage, gun control and school safety.
Gun Control in America Gun control in America is a highly debated subject. James Wilson speaks against gun control in his article “Gun Control Isn’t the Answer”. Gun laws need to be more restricted. Gun control reform is needed to safeguard children and prevent access to those with mental illness and a criminal background. Wilson talks about the shooting at Virginia Tech using it as a platform to talk about people not weapons being responsible for the tragedy.
This paper also provides an interesting solution to gun violence; instead of already proven ineffective gun control laws, these authors suggest looking at why these laws are ineffective. Planty, Michael, and Jennifer
Instead of banning or limiting guns, the evidence will show that removing the current restrictions and targeting individuals instead of guns will be a more effective process. The topic of gun control has two polarized opinions. One such opinion targets the individuals responsible for the crime, instead of just the weapons. John Moorhouse and Brent Wanner tackle the issue of gun control in their article “Does Gun Control Reduce Crime Or Does Crime Increase Gun Control”, which was published in 2006 in the twenty-sixth volume of the Cato Journal. These researchers looked at the effects gun control laws had on violent crime and gun violence in the individual states.
