Gun Control "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." As Thomas Jefferson stated, this right of citizens is a way of self defense. This has been a right of the people in America for centuries, why should this right be taken away now? Enforcing of this law could increase attacks, restrict good citizens, and take away a means of defense from the people. However, many lives are being lost because of gun control. The recent, tragic attacks on Paris are a prime example of what can occur when citizens cannot defend themselves properly. Due to strict gun control laws, France has forbidden any of its citizens to own a gun. Even the policemen in France are unable to carry guns. As many can imagine, this makes it difficult to prevent these attacks in Paris from happening. After these incidents, the policemen agreed that they should be allowed to carry guns as a right to protect the citizens. If the France citizens had been allowed to carry guns, the attacks would have had a different result. The amount of innocent lives could have been reduced, and perhaps the person behind the attacks could have been dealt with. Still, after all these attacks, politicians in France have yet to lift their gun control laws (http://www.thenewamerican.com). Gun control takes away the rights of citizens that have been established for many years, increases possibility of harm, and essentially weakens the nation.
